About

One world. Built by one weirdo.

G'day. I'm Andy. This is what forty years of making things has been building toward.

The maker

So who actually builds all this?

Me: Andrew Parsons. Australian, fifty-five, ADHD. I've been a software engineer, a tech journalist, a game reviewer, a magazine editor published in twenty-three countries, a developer evangelist at Microsoft, and a product marketer at Unity. Somewhere in all of that I reviewed over a thousand video games, wrote a dozen books, talked to everyone from solo student developers to the heads of the largest game companies on the planet, and ran worldwide events for the next generation of developers. The through-line in all of it was the same: find something cool, help people do more with it.

The creative side never stopped either. NaNoWriMo every year. Game prototypes in more forms than I can count. A self-published novel called Wolfonne, set in a world of shapeshifters called Erl. If that sounds familiar, it's because Erl is now the Veilwilds, one of the eight regions of Veryn. The world was always there. It just kept changing names.

Veryn is the version that finally stuck. It started the way most worlds do, as a short story from a teenager hunting a beast that was also hunting him, as a notebook of song lyrics that went nowhere, as a campaign setting, as a NaNoWriMo draft. It became what it is now because the tools finally caught up with the vision. For the first time I can hear what the music sounds like, see what the characters look like, iterate fast enough to react rather than just plan. Forty years of making things, and this is what happens when the brakes come off.
